OK, now that the trailer's out for the very lastest series of The Umbrella Academy (TUA) - for which I am both excited but also sad, because, lastest - this week's F3 seems super relevant.
...Happy coincidences, and all that jazz.
(Or maybe I need to read fanfiction from a wider range of fandoms - rec 'em in the comments if you got 'em!)
This is a Klaus/Dave fic, and it's beautiful!
(And has SPOILERS for series 1 of TUA)
And yes, I know there's a ship name for Klaus/Dave, but my synaesthesia no-likey, it tastes effing weird, so we're gonna call it Klaus/Dave, m'k?
It's canonic anyway, and canon doesn't really need a ship name (yes, I'm over-rationalising, what of it?)
(Fandom notes:
A ship is a relationship between two or more characters.
A ship name is a name used as shorthand for a relationship between specific characters.
Canon is the 'official' stuff in the book/TV series/film/whatever.)

Anywho - this is a slow, soft, gentle, and (just a little bit) devastatingly, heart-wrenchingly, angsty fic.
So, obviously, I loved it.
And it's ALSO well-written.
And you know we have a rule here at Dora Reads - if the fanfiction is well-written, then I must rec. It's the law. Well... not like the law law. Maybe the lore law.
I don't know what I'm talking about now, let's be honest...
So, this whole fic is Klaus in Vietnam with Dave.
...And Klaus noticing that, in some lights, Dave's eyes are the exact same shade of blue as his powers, the ghosts, etc. etc.
Which leads to a whole lot of introspection from both of them and... it's beautiful.
It's So. Freaking. Beautiful. 😍
Some Content Warnings for this one, then:
- war and all associated violence, murder, etc.
- self-esteem issues
- implied PTSD-like symptoms
- childhood abuse and trauma
