Friday Fics Fix - Cyberpunk Stucky

'“Okay, get up, the both of you.” He took out his phone, typed Shuri’s address in, and sent it to Steve’s number. “You’re going to get blood all over the upholstery. And then I’ll have to set fire to it, and then to you for making me sacrifice my good sofa.”'

Title: F3. Background: kaleidoscopic patterns

I love it when fanfic authors have the determination, the dedication, the goddamn verve to write full-length novels.

When those full-length novels are so freaking good - so well thought out, so fleshed out in terms of world-building, so passionate and compelling, that you would legit. buy this as an original novel?

OH MY GOD!!!

This fic is amazing.

In a nutshell: Stucky as detectives in space.

But it's so much more than that.

There are also sound effects (which sadly do not work on eReader for obvious reasons, but which are awesome in the live web version,) and art by an artistic collaborator.

That's some effort right there!

This is cyberpunk/cybernoir with developed plot and in-depth characters, with an established history, and working administrative system for the space station they live on.

AND IT'S DONE WELL!

Every little thing has been thought about. Every. Little. Thing.

(Fandom notes:

Stucky is a romantic and/or sexual relationship between Steven Rogers (Captain America) and Bucky Barnes (The Winter Soldier) of the MCU (Marvel movies.))

I have something of a Love/Hate relationship with cyberpunk and cybernoir (which are sub-genres of sci-fi, in case you're totally lost here.)

I love it in theory.

I hate it when it's not done well.

I mean... I really hate it when it's not done well. And it doesn't even have to be done badly to get on my nerves - mediocre cyberpunk is a chore to slog through, imho.

So, from a picky cyberpunk reader, trust me - this is good.

And I enjoyed the way the fic author - who, according to the author's note, has ADHD - wrote Steve with ADHD.

...including the positive, the negative, and the neutral; rather than just one of those things.

I also love the way other characters are brought in - notably Thor and Loki.

Now, there is Thorki. BUT this is a universe where Thor and Loki are not, and never have been, related - adopted or otherwise.

So we don't even have to use 'technically' (which, as any Umbrella Academy fan will tell you, if you have to use 'technically' you're already in trouble,) in regard to possible incest. There is NONE.

Still, I understand if you're squicked out.

(Fandom notes:

Thorki is a romantic and/or sexual relationship between brothers Thor and Loki, because this is why we can't have nice things.)

Anyway - Thor and Loki are great in this.

Because they're terrible.

They are a**holes who should not come within five metres of each other - and it's amazing. I love it.

And I found myself hoping for more scenes with them just for the messiness. It's amazing.

There's so much more I would love to talk about here, but I'm just going to hope that you'll read it for yourself.

Because I don't want to spoil this fic - it's much better to just let it unfold.
