It's Thursday, I'm tired, this is Dora Reads, so let's get some comics-y superhero-y goodness!
THEY'RE BACK, BUB!!!!
OH MY GOD OH MY GOD OH MY GOD!!!!!!!
OK, calm down Cee.
Rewind.
The 90s animated X-men series is iconic - I can remember watching it as a smol child and just loving it.
Not least because it was one of the most ridiculously complex kids shows out there, and it never shied away from the tough stuff.
Persecution, hate groups, eugenics, genetic experimentation, interment camps, segregation, passing vs non-passing, respectability politics... it was all there.
Wow. Looking back it was a lot. And it was never like, 'now we are talking about this subject' - it was all interwoven, part of the story, with the allegory of the X-men front and centre.
...Jean and Scott always sucked though. #JustSaying.
But Disney+ is bringing it back -
- and not in a reboot. Not in a reimagining. Nope.
The same series, (now called X-men '97 to account for the time period it's set in,) carrying on from where we left off, and with that same iconic theme tune playing.
And now we have a trailer.
ARGH!!!!!
...I love it.
Warning: mild flashing images, death and grief, persecution, implied violence
Shameless Self-Promo
- And if you want Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes angry-flirting (which, who doesn't?) you can see it in last week's Friday Fics Fix here.
Are you a fan of the X-men series?!
Have you seen the new trailer?
