'Knock, knock, knock on the door. Three times, not four, and the door isn’t blue. It’s red, glittering in baubles of sunlight cast over its fresh coat of paint. The Doctor is safe.'
So far, I'm loving the way Dr Who is headed with Russell T. Davies back at the helm.
Side-note: Welsh people (which Russell T Davies is,) say Dave-iss, not Daveys. Please, for the love of God, respect that. (And check out this Legends of Tomorrow clip for pronounciation, complete with accent.)
Also, Welsh people with common surnames will use middle initials or names to distinguish themselves from other people with the same name. Don't miss out the initials/names when talking about them, please and thank you.
Anywho, as expected by anyone with even the most basic knowledge of either him or the show, Russell T Davies has gone full-on inclusisivity, which is awesome-sauce -
- and has also made some important points about mental health/wellbeing, which is also awesome-sauce.
This week's fic is based around the mental health and wellbeing side of things.
I can't say much, because spoilers for the show, but it focusses on David Tennant's Doctor, and Donna Noble's family.
(In case it wasn't clear, this fic has SPOILERS for the recent anniversary specials, post-Jodie-Whittaker.)

It's short and self-care/recovery-based -
and involves the idea of the Doctor trying out various hobbies, which, I mean - why wouldn't you?
- and most importantly, is well-written.
And you know I have no choice at that point. I have to rec. It's the rules *nods sagely*
As far as I can figure out, the only Content Warning for this one is dealing with PTSD/general mental health issues.
...and some kitchen-related disasters.
As always, I may have forgotten something, so please be careful.
This week's fic, then, is:

That's a cute story! And yes, well-written. As for where the show is going...um...not a fan on Ncuti's first episode. This is what I wrote about it on my blog:
ReplyDelete"Disney partnered with BBC for international rights, and even if its influence wasn't super-obvious in the previous specials (thank goodness) it blatantly shows in this one. It's part superhero blockbuster (the anti-gravity gloves and the Doctor jumping through air in an almost-horizontally fashion in order to grasp a rope ladder???), part fantasy movie (goblins??? seriously???), and it even has a godforsaken MUSICAL NUMBER in it, with the Doctor and his new companion SINGING to their enemies..."
Sorry, but...I'm having a hard time reconciling the first RTD era with this one. Yay for inclusivity (the TARDIS even has a wheelchair ramp now!), but I'm in two minds about the bigeneration, and I'm afraid the story quality is going to suffer...
I really need to catch up on your blog! Argh! I'm behind on so much atm.
DeleteAnyways - I loved Ncuti's first episode. A lot of the things you're not a fan of - the goblins, the singing - are quite normal, even standard, features, from a Welsh cultural perspective... so I guess I honestly either a) didn't notice, or b) liked them?
I am struggling, honestly, to see your problems with them?
But that's OK - Russell T Davies has made clear that he wants different episodes to have very different vibes to each other because that's part of what makes Dr Who special, so hopefully you'll find some you love :)
