Since F3 is going on its regular break in December, I thought that now was a great time to give you my stand-out fics of the year!
- That's not the same as the best fics of the year.
It's more... the ones I can still remember when stressed and tired at the end of November 😅 (Expect a lot from the last few months, ngl.)

OK, you're gonna get sick of how often I rec. this fic, but I don't care.
Izzy Hands is being haunted.
Izzy knows - and Buttons, weirdly, knows - that there's something not... quite... human... aboard the Revenge. Maybe it was once, but now? Now it's pretty effing dangerous.
The horror is proper-tense, the plot is unexpected, the characterisation is complex, and it's novel-length.
...Marry me, fic, we'll be so happy together! (Lol.)
'The coffee is gone.
"No," Clint whispers, staring at the counter where he left it. "What the... is it... coffee burglar?"'

No Consequences, No Hangovers by jedusaur
Here's the thing: in order for me to like a time-loop fic, and not get effing bored of it half-way through, it has to be creative.
And this is! (Yay!)
It's fun, it has a bunch of creative ideas, and it made me laugh.
The basic premise, here, is that Clint Barton - aka Marvel's Hawkeye - is reliving a very stressful day.
Like - it just had to be the day where the Avengers end up fighting weird interdimensional bionic rats, he spends five hours tied up on a goddamn boat back-to-back with Bucky Barnes and without his hearing aids, and there is No. Coffee.
No coffee.
None.
How is he supposed to deal with that?!
This fic is really fun and clever - and also involves a relationship between Clint and Bucky Barnes.
That's not a relationship you see that often in fanfiction, and I love it here - it's done really well.
'The crew stared at him, and at Lucius behind him who was gesturing emphatically at the leather pants.'

So, Lucius notices the attraction between Blackbeard & Stede earlier than in the series, and is like: These two be Gay FOR EACH OTHER.
And the rest of the crew are like: What? Nah! They're just two dudes swappin' clothes in an entirely platonic way - I mean really Lucius, why would you think anything else?
And Lucius is like: ...Nah, they Gay.
It's so much fun that even thinking about it now is making me smile.
So it's def. earned its place on this list!

Sharpen Your Teeth by STARSdidathing
This is another one that I rec. a lot - and another one that I'm gonna keep rec'ing!
This is an amazing FrostIron fic that comes in at over 1000 pages, and over 7 years of the fic author's presumed blood, sweat, and tears. Hopefully more the last two than the first one.
That is dedication!
(Fandom notes:
FrostIron is a romantic and/or sexual relationship between Marvel's Tony Stark and Loki. It weirdly works, just trust me on this.)
So, the basic premise here is:
Tony's in his sad place because of an argument with the other Avengers and SHIELD.
Loki pops up in his tower, trying to convince him to Make Nice with the other heroic types on account of Thanos being a thing that will happen, and Loki very much not being in favour of Thanos being a thing that happens.
Tony doesn't want to make nice with his super-buddies - and instead suggests that Loki and he form an alliance, albeit an untrusting, bound-by-magical-contract one.
It's amazing, romantic, and feels fresh through the entire mahoosive length.
...Which is really saying something!
"He says hi," says Marc. "And he really likes how this alliance is working so far -- new age of the world and all that, very exciting -- but, if you could just...respect the right of the moon to be real frickin' mysterious? Please?"

The basic-ness of this fic is that Moon Knight is now officially A Hero™ and they and Scarlet Scarab are finding themselves in increasingly frequent team-ups and run-ins with other Marvel heroes.
Yes - we're talking crossovers. It's a whole fic of crossovers, (done amazingly, I might add.)
We got She-Hulk, Deadpool, Ms Marvel, Dr Strange, Captain America (Sam) and The Winter Soldier, Rocket Raccoon, and a whole bunch more 😊😊😊
Only the Moon Knight Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) system isn't really ready to be open with a bunch of the world's most famous (and some less famous,) superheroes, about the fact that there's three of them sharing one body.
Which means they don't have a great explanation as to why they talk to themselves a lot...
...or the dissociation/fugue state that DID can bring with it.
...or how the suit keeps changing.
...or how their accent keeps changing.
...or how there seems to be more than one Moon Knight, but at least two of them are in a relationship with Marc's wife...
All of these other superheroes seem to want answers - and they keep picking holes in Moon Knight's stories.
I mean... why can't the mystic powers of the moon just be really freaking mysterious, huh?! Why all these goddamn questions?! Lol.
This is a novel-length fic, but it doesn't really feel novel-ish - it feels more like a series of crossover comics.
...Only, like, y'know, in prose. 😅
It's really original - I can honestly say I've never read anything else like it.
And so, obviously, it's one of my stand-out fics of the year!
