Who doesn't love a ghost story?
...Don't answer that! 😅 I know they're not to everyone's taste.
But I love 'em - and there are some pretty awesome fanfic ghost stories out there (both spooky and not-so-spooky,) so I figured I'd remind you of a few of my faves
I was originally not planning on making this a specifically LGBTQ+ list, but this is fanfiction...
...so it turned out literally 100% of the fics I picked were LGBTQ+ in some capacity! Woo! Lol. 😅

If I had a nickel for every time I've rec'd SamBucky where Bucky is the ghost haunting a house, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.
Actually, I could probably find a lot more if I wanted - it's a surprisingly popular trope.

The first of these fics is A Candle Still Burning by anactoria
The basic gist here is that Bucky died in World War 2 and is now a ghost. Sam has been called into the house he haunts as an exorcist, but things quickly get complicated.
Because Bucky isn't the problem in this house.
And he's kinda handsome. And funny. And sweet. And... ah sh**, Sam's in trouble here. 😈😉

Sam blinks again, taken aback by the sudden anger in Bucky’s tone. He opens his mouth, closes it, then opens it again to ask, “Who taught you about podcasts?”'
The second of these SamBucky haunted house fics is you know i didn't want to (have to haunt you) by dharmainitiative
Nebula (yes, from Guardians of the Galaxy - her girlfriend in this is Mantis, and I love it,) owns a house that she would very much like real estate agent Sam Wilson to sell for her.
The problem is that it comes with a supernatural resident - one Bucky Barnes - and he's Not Leaving.
So suspend your disbelief and enjoy 100+ pages of why-the-hell-not fun!
Moving away from SamBucky, then, let's travel to the Troubled town of Haven, Maine.
'"So that's six ghosts, then. Six angry, murderous ghosts."
"Yeah," Duke said. The foundations of his anger had washed away, and now he just looked tired.'
So Stay With Me and I'll Have It Made by bellatemple is a Fix-It fic for the TV show Haven.
Haven was a gothicky, horror-y, sci-fi (and SyFy,) series which ran between 2010 and 2015.
(Fandom notes:
Fix-It fics 'fix' things that the fic author (or large swathes of fandom,) disagree with from the canon (i.e. source material.))
There are some TV series which are truly amazing... until the ending.
Sometimes the ending just isn't up to scratch. Which is where Fix-It fics come in.
Duke Crocker is forever my favourite Haven character - an angsty bad-boy with a soft heart who's played by a very pretty dude? What's not to love, really?
...Duke's also the kind of guy who ends up having to help everyone else, with no-one else realising how much sh** he's going through. Which, y'know... I may or may not relate way too hard, tbh.
Never mind the final episode, the final season of Haven doesn't do right by Duke. And this fic seeks to fix that exact problem.
And, because this is fanfiction, it also makes both Duke and another character, Dwight, Bi - and gives them some M/M romance.
Because we are fixing things, after all 😉
How about some piratical hauntings? I've got just the thing!

In Another Form by CandleJam is an Our Flag Means Death (OFMD) fic that I rec'd first a mere few weeks ago.
(Please no SPOILERS for s2 - the UK currently has no air date. Sad times.)
I full-on fangirled over the page when I first rec'd this because... *squeaks* IT'S SO GOOD!
Izzy Hands is being haunted.
Izzy knows - and Buttons, weirdly, knows - that there's something not... quite... human... aboard the Revenge. Maybe it was once, but now? Now it's pretty effing dangerous.
The horror is proper-tense, the plot is unexpected, the characterisation is complex, and it's novel-length.
...Marry me, fic, we'll be so happy together! (Lol.)
And where would any ghost story rec list be without my fave Klaus Hargreeves from The Umbrella Academy (TUA)?

A Minor Complication by kattahj is set after series 1, and is canon divergence from that point.
I first rec'd this in 2020, which for those not keeping up was pre-series-3 (pre-series-2, in fact,) so it may use Viktor's original name and pronouns - just as a heads-up.
(Fangirling notes: canon divergence is where the fic follows the canon (the official stuff that happens in the book, TV series, whatever,) up to a point, but then goes its own way.)
This is a gloriously long fic about Ben and Klaus Hargreeves inadvertantly taking on the guardianship of a smol Non-Binary (NB) ghost child, Jordan.
...And honestly, I thought it was gonna get naff pretty quickly - but it didn't!
This is one of those fics where the author has basically written an Entire. Novel.™ based around their idea.
And it's good.
It brings in the whole 'how can we be parents when we had such a cr*ppy upbringing?' thing and combines it with Klaus' substance abuse issues, and wanting to keep li'l Jordan (the smol NB ghost child,) away from all of that.
