This one's weird.
Good weird? Bad weird?
I don't honestly know.
But it's weird. And you know I love me some weird 😅
This is a The Umbrella Academy (TUA) fic based around an AU of the 1st season.
(And as such, there are SPOILERS in this fic for series 1 - but the context is super messed-around-with.)
So far, so not-weird - well, as not-weird as TUA ever gets anyway.
(Fandom notes:
AU = Alternate Universe. A universe which is alternate.)
But the fic author has really added a whole bunch of creativity to this AU, and I love that.
This fic imagines that, while most of the Hargreeves siblings are (super)human, Klaus is not.
Klaus is Other. Someone - something - else.
Not God Herself (which is a TUA thing, don't yell at me religious people,) but closer to Her than he is to everyone else.

And while I wouldn't like this to be what the actual series is like - I love TUA as it is, thank you very much - it was a really interesting look at how that premise would work out.
What Klaus would be like in that scenario - and what some of the other characters would be like if they found out - was something that I loved seeing the fic author explore.
So - was it good weird? Was it bad weird? I have no clue.
But it made me think - and you gotta love that.

It's hit or miss for me whenever fic authors (or any author or writer) get super duper creative. I think it's just more difficult for me to absorb the story when they keep adding layers of weird on top of layers of weird. Part of the reason why the tv show Twin Peaks just did not work for me :(
ReplyDeleteI get that - but then, TUA's kind of surreal to begin with! (Especially the comics.) And while this was weird - the fic author seemed to know what they were doing with it, which is always good! Lol.
