Comics Wrap-Up - Sticking Steadfast To The Rep

'Comics Wrap-Up' with lined-notebook-style background and speech bubbles containing heart symbols

It's Thursday, I am very tired (and that's OK, dammit,) let's get some superhero-y comics-y goodness!

Super Proud

The current Superman, Jonathan Kent - son of the OG, Clark, because legacy shenanigans - is Bisexual, and now his dad knows too.

Yep, Superman came out to his dad, and introduced Clark to his boyfriend

Good on you, Jonny boy. (And good on DC for sticking steadfast to the rep.)

The Toxic Masculinity Villain

Eileen Gonzalez @ Book Riot takes a look at the odd comic-book history of Marvel comics villain Mahkizmo

- a warrior from a possible distant dystopian future where men have oppressed women even more than they did in the 1970s, when he first appeared in comics.

*link CWs: abduction, implied forced marriage and potential sexual violence, general violence

He's the walking embodiment of toxic masculinity - that's his whole thing.

He sounds a lot like some of the deluded women-hating internet guys of the current era. I don't know whether that makes it funnier or sadder, tbh.

And it seems only appropriate that he seems to not know where exactly babies come from for a good portion of his history 😂

Shameless Self-Promo Time

...Or you can check out last week's CWU, right here on Dora Reads, where the talky-talk first appeared.

  • Last week's Friday Fics Fix featured Bucky Barnes having to deal with some shady government stuff, and Sam Wilson chasing his cyborg posterior across the USA

What do you think of Mahkizmo? Do you have a favourite love-to-hate villain?

  1. My favourite love to hate villain is Homelander from the comic series The Boys. He is a horrible, awful, misogynistic and downright terrible villain and I relish every time he doesn't get his way.

    1. Lol, sounds like he and Mahkizmo would get along like a house on fire - they'd probably start their own little woman-hating club. As much as I like a complex villain, sometimes it's just nice to have someone who's undeniably The Bad Guy to root against!
