It's Thursday, the UK is hot as hell (again, ugh,) so let's get some comics-y superhero-y goodness!
Marvelous Ms Marvel!
(Yes, I know people've probably made that joke already. I don't care 😅)
I finished watching Ms Marvel, and I loved the last episode - it was so much fun!
But it never really went over the line to too goofy, y'know?

But there was a moment (and if you know, you know,) where I was like:
...wow, we're really just throwing out the entirety of the MCU's Inhumans story lines - even the part in Agents of SHIELD - and awkwardly retconning the sh** out of this, yeah?
Because while I appreciate the music in the background, (again, if you know, you know,) that's what's going on here.
After all of the retconning we did to Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver that ended up removing their entire marginalised identities *shakes head in disappointment*
Clumsy retconning does not work. If you're gonna do it, do it casually, m'k?
😅😅😅
Also, Kamala is epic and I can't wait to see her in The Marvels film alongside Carol Danvers!
Eep!
And Bruno is forever the sweetest and most supportive dude. 😆
This Is Bats
No-one's entirely sure why, but Warner Bros Discovery have decided that the Batgirl film - which was nearing completion - won't be released.
It was due to appear on HBO Max, the streaming platform, in the US (probably Sky here in the UK since they have a deal with HBO.)
Featuring Latina actress Leslie Grace as Batgirl, Michael Keaton as Batman, Brendon Fraser as villain Firefly, and Ivory Aquino as Alysia Yeoh - set to be the first Trans character in a DC feature film - the announcement seems to have come to a shock to everyone.
It also looks like it was a shock to the film's directors, Adil El Arbi and Billall Fallah - who were also behind Disney+'s Ms Marvel - since they released a statement that literally said 'we are shocked and saddened by the news.'
Warner Bros claim that the film was axed because... something-something-strategy?
It doesn't make a whole lot of sense, tbh.
They say they want to focus on theatrical releases - so the question has to be asked: if that was the case, why would they not just give Batgirl a theatrical release?
Or stream it anyway! It's reportedly nearly done. Change your strategy moving forwards, instead.
Variety theorises it's more about taxes than tickets - which, sadly, probably makes a lot of sense.
To giant companies like Warner Bros., the money is the first, last, and everything in between.
Which is so sad for all the people who worked so hard on this film.
Shameless Self-Promo Time!

I looooved Ms Marvel -- definitely my favorite of the Marvel TV shows that I've seen so far. Kamala is such a cutie-pie and I loved watching her journey.
ReplyDeleteI love it! And the actress did an excellent job :)
DeleteYay!!! I'm so glad you loved Ms. Marvel. Ugh, I will rave about this series forever, it is definitely one of my favourite of the MCU tv shows. I definitely agree that it never really became cheesy or goofy, despite being really family friendly and accurate in its portrayal of teens. I agree that the plot twist at the end may be a bit of a stretch, but I really can't wait to see where Kamala goes next.
ReplyDeleteIt's awesome! And yes, can't wait for The Marvels! :) I think the twist was trying a *little* too hard, y'know? Like... you can make this happen if you want to Marvel, but I reeeally think you should chill a bit! Lol.
