'Nandor blinked at his question, almost owlish. “You want to see your human mother?” As if he had another kind.'
A little over a month ago, I explained to all of you that What We Do In The Shadows (WWDITS) is an amazing vampire-mockumentary work of genius that occupies space in my head, rent-free.
It continues to squat and not pay me a penny for its living quarters.
Last time I talked about WWDITS, I didn't discuss the still-beating heart of the show: Guillermo.
Guillermo is the human familiar (sort of - that's the simple version,) of Nandor - the Queer, depressed, vampire, who does craft projects as a sign of affection, and who I relate to way, way, too hard.
Guillermo is one of the only characters with any idea of how to function in the modern world - or how to function generally, really.
...How the vampires survived in the centuries before he came along is anyone's guess.
But mostly I think it was by killing and eating their problems, rather than dealing with them 😅
Guillermo's a fab. character, whose main aim has always been to become a vampire.
...Which Nandor has always promised him, but is yet to make good on.
On top of that, he has a will-they-won't-they thing going on with Nandor.
Fanfiction has inevitably decided that they will.
Because fanfiction is Gay af.

So, this fic takes that attitude, and has Guillermo and Nandor in a sort-of-boyfriends relationship.
...Which has the fandom ship-name of Nandermo, if anyone's interested.
And it's time for Nandor to meet the family!
(Fandom notes:
ship = a romantic and/or sexual relationship between two or more characters
ship-name = the particular name given to a specific romantic or sexual relationship by fandom)
I'm usually wary of fics which have a lot of OCs, but this manages to do it quite well.
In canon, we know extremely little about Guillermo's family - we've briefly seen his mother, Silvia, in her small apartment, but that's about it - so it gives fic authors a lot of space to play with.
(Fandom notes:
OCs = Original Characters - characters who are created by the fic author, and are not present in canon.
Canon is the 'official' stuff in a film/book/TV series/whatever.)
This fic is a lot of fun - especially when Nandor pretends to be human.
(The vampires in WWDITS seem to think that the best way of convincing people they're human is by announcing that they are human all the time.)
...and there's even a twist in there too, which is fab.
There are SPOILERS throughout though, so be aware of that.
A couple of Content Warnings for this one:
- general violence
- general discussion of corpses, murder, blood, etc.
- minor pain/injury
- references to orgies and sexy-times
This week's fic, then, is:
The Vampire Who Came to Dinner by returnofthelu
Are you a WWDITS fan?
Do you know of any fics that do a good job with OCs?

YES!!! I started watching this show a few weeks ago and I am hooked. I'm almost caught up. I just love the queerness of the whole series and how open the vampires are with their relationships and sexuality. It's just generally accepted that they're all attracted to each other which is so great. Taika Waititi does it again!
