To the surprise of probably no-one by this point, I'm here to rec you some more The Falcon and The Winter Soldier (TFATWS) - specifically, more SamBucky.
(Look, the inside of my head is essentially a big ball of tangled spaghetti, the confusion of which is relieved by the presence of various fictional characters, who have taken their spots rent-free, and who fight each other for dominance.
Right now, Sam and Bucky are winning. 😅)

SamBucky is a romantic and/or sexual relationship between Sam and Bucky. Hence the name, lol.)
This week, I have for your humble consideration, a well-written road-trip fic with slow burn romance, pining, and a dash of angst
- and if that trope stew ain't enough for you, then I will also add a healthy helping of schmoop and fluff as Sam introduces Bucky to the everyday wonders of The Big Wide World™.
And this time, said wide world isn't trying to kill him - which is refreshing.
(Fandom Notes:
Slow burn romance - romance that takes a while to actually become a romance, a relationship that amps up slowly
Pining - characters making puppy dog eyes at each other on account of how much they wanna be together.
Angst - dramatic and/or emotional stuff, typically struggling with the heavy sh**.
Tropes - kind of half-way between a theme and a stereotype.
Schmoop - adorableness, typically along the lines of characters bonding in a wholesome way
Fluff - light-hearted stuff; like sunshine and rainbows to Angst's clouds and thunder.
...I need to start using less fandom terminology 😅 ...maybe. 😎 )

It was super-enjoyable, with enough light-n-shade to keep yours truly's little goblin spaghetti brain happy.
And that's an excellent tribute, if ever there was one 😉 (...it's been a long week. I regret nothing. 😅 )
It also doesn't shy away from mental health issues and trauma and the sh** that these two have been through - but neither does it overly-dwell, managing to keep the balance without trivialising the issues.
This picks up directly after TFATWS series, with a relatively flimsy bureaucratic plot device to give Sam and Bucky some time off.
As such, it's also filled to the brim with SPOILERS - SPOILERS EVERYWHERE! OK? OK.
A couple of warnings for this one:
- references to:
- racism
- trauma
- mental health issues
- death
- terrorism
- torture
- general violence
- knives used in a training/workout capacity
- affects of trauma and torture
- grief
- overwhelm
- everyday affects of mental health issues
- sexy-times

DeleteI think angsty moments in lighter plot is a good thing! It's great when writers are able to provide a good balance between serious and happy. Of course, life isn't always butterflies and rainbows!
