Friday Fics Fix - Loki, Gender, and The TVA (Fandom Is Here For It)

I mean… it’s probably no surprise that I’ve been absorbing large amounts of Loki fanfiction as if I can somehow merge them with my DNA.

(Which… I feel like there’s probs a fic out there somewhere that’s based on just that scenario, but I’m too scared to look. Because I’ll find it. 😅)

But if you’re new around here: I’m Marvel trash, btw.

And of the many specific types of Marvel trash that I am – being part of Loki’s Army is right up there.

(Fandom notes:

Loki’s Army is a name for the Loki fandom. As in Loki’s ‘I have an army’ line from Avengers Assembled.)






And the acknowledgement of Loki’s (long comics-canon) Queer identities (yes, plural Queer IDs: gender and sexuality,) in the Disney+ show, has given fandom a gift.

Fandom can create entire Queer back-stories out of one or two lingering glances – so explicit representation is like Christmas at the ice-cream shop when you’re six years old, y’know?

And while Loki’s Gender-Fluid identity wasn’t explored in the show – a brief look at his TVA file will show that he’s marked ‘Sex: Fluid.’ 

And yes, the Queer nerds noticed – and it is canon.

So this week’s fic is one in the steadily growing pile in the uber-specific trope of:

‘Loki working at the TVA, struggling with Gender Dysphoria, and having to find a way to feel more comfortable.’

Fandom will give the people what they want, OK?




(Fandom notes:

A trope is difficult to explain, but it’s kind of half-way between a theme and a metaphor. Sort of like metaphor-lite.)






So this is one of the best I’ve come across so far.

Well-written, good characterisation, really emotive without being melodramatic – what more could you ask for?






This fic is also #OwnVoices for Gender-Fluid rep, and uses They/Them pronouns for Loki.

...All of which we love to see, ofc.
