It's Thursday, my darling nerdlets, and it's time for some awesome comics-y-ness!
Graphic Novels
OK, after re-reading the first two Umbrella Academy volumes, this week was time for number 3: Hotel Oblivion.
OMG, this book! *dies of awesome* ๐๐๐
I love... so many things about this book!
Especially the way the characterisation is developing - a little more in line with the Netflix show, in fact.
Probably not a coincidence - but whether the show influenced the comics or the comics influenced the show is probably only something Gerard Way and Gabriel Bรก can answer!
This one got graphic dearest nerdlets! (I know, I know, graphic novel.)
So while, as usual with The Umbrella Academy, there's a general Content Warning for... everything, there's also specific warnings required here for forced prostitution, graphic drug use and graphic images of death by suicide.

Other Stuff
Speaking of the awesomeness of The Umbrella Academy (and you know I will, because I'm a total fangirl!) The Hillywood Show made an amazing parody of it, which I loved!
It's great how loving this parody is - the creators clearly love the show almost as much as I do! Plus, it's full of memes & fan-service and references to Vines, which is SO awesome!
(Yes, I'm gushing. No, I don't care ๐)
Warning: SPOILERS! SPOILERS EVERYWHERE!, flashing images, substance abuse, swearing, bereavement, violence, family issues (b/c Umbrella Academy.)
And to end this week, check out Debbie @ AICL's recommendation of the STRANGELANDS comics series.
Comics Wrap-Up is going on break in December, but will be back on 9th January 2020! Have a comics-ful Christmas!
What do you think of ongoing comics/book adaptations when the source material is also ongoing?
Have you read Hotel Oblivion?
Any Christmas comics-reading plans?
Talk to me! ๐๐ฌ

'Sometimes you scare me but I come around to you' is from Baby, You're A Haunted House by Gerard Way

I guess the only time I’ve had an issue with an ongoing adaptation and source material is with Game of Thrones. George R.R.Martin was lucky the show ended first. I’m sure he is pondering over his ending a lot lol!
ReplyDeleteHa, knowing George RR Martin, he's probably there like, 'I'll add more death! That'll make everyone happy!' Lol!
DeleteOkay, I had no idea Hillywood made a parody. I'll have to remember to check it out.
ReplyDeleteAnd I really enjoyed the show but haven't read the comic yet (I know I need to) but I guess I'm someone who doesn't mind there being changes from the source material as long as they make sense and don't ruin the characters/plot, even though I am the type to compare and complain about changes so, it depends
Hope you enjoy the parody! (It's amazing!)
DeleteI hope you do read & enjoy the comics! They're a *lot* randomer! (Yes, that's possible.) And just generally more comic-book-y (which, tbh, I think makes it more disturbing, not less!) I think the attitude of same-but-different is best with adaptations! Neither is 'better' - they're just... different! :)
