Friday Fics Fix - Twists and Turns

'Trying to talk to Five is like talking to a brick wall that thinks it’s smarter than you and disappears as soon as it gets bored, which is quickly.'

Let's visit The Umbrella Academy!

(I will never tire of this show.)

I love it when fics are like - 'yeah, but what about this!'

I've said it before and I'll doubtless say it again - all of the what ifs, the explorations, the alternate universes, the explanations, the theories... they're what makes media LIVE!

So this fic is about The Umbrella Academy... with a twist.

I don't wanna get spoiler-y, so I'm gonna be vague - but I loved it!

Some people might consider it cliché, or an over-used trope, or whatever, but f**k it I don't care - it's soooo well done!

...And it's also more than slightly heart-breaking, tbh. (In the best of ways, ofc.)

And yes, it's Klaus-centric, because I love my Queen Klaus, but there's also plenty of Five, and the others all feature at least in passing.

There's also a butt-tonne of SPOILERS, although a lot of these get changed and played around with to fit with the alternatives being offered here.

A few warnings to be aware of:

- death
- grief
- references to addiction, withdrawal, etc.
- references to military service
- dysfunctional family relationships (because Umbrella Academy)
- general heart-break-ness at the end

Stay safe dearest nerdlets!

This week's fic, then, is:

Do you think clichés/over-used tropes can still be well-used?
Do you appreciate explorations and twists of established plots? (Either in canon or fandom?)

  1. I think cliches and tropes can still be used well. I mean, I’m not gonna completely shun a book just because it has a love triangle in it.
