a #prideathon banner (DORA)

The #Prideathon runs from 17-23rd April.

It's hosted on Twitter here.

The expectation is that people will complete at least three of the eight reading challenges.

There are also photo challenges but, meh, I don't have the patience for photography - Bookish Rebel and all that jazz

The reading challenges:

1) an f/f romance
2) a comic book with an LGBT+ MC (Main Character)
3) a book by a QAoC (Queer Author of Colour)
4) a book with an intersex MC
5) a book with a disabled LGBTQ+ MC
6) a Sci-Fi/Fantasy book with an LGBTQ+ MC
7) a book with a QPoC (Queer Person of Colour) MC
8) an LGBTQ+ non-fiction book

I have 2 books which cover 4 challenges (yeah, I'm cheating, but I'm efficient dammit!) that I will probably read, and then some extra options for if I feel like it.

I may also sub one or more for the original 2 - you know me guys, I'm a mood reader. #DealWithIt

My 2 main TBR books:

Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Saenz

Amazon: UK - USA

This is one I've been wanting to read for a while: a YA M/M novel that everyone seems to love - #ownvoices and with Mexican-American MCs.

3) a book by a QAoC (Queer Author of Colour)
7) a book with a QPoC (Queer Person of Colour) MC

Sunstone, Vol 5 by Stjepan Sejic

Amazon: UK - USA

This one's 18+ only on account of many sexy-times references, and BDSM being one of the central themes of the series.

This is actually a really sweet F/F graphic novel series, and I really enjoyed the previous 4 volumes.

1) an f/f romance
2) a comic book with an LGBT+ MC (Main Character)

Volume 1 on Amazon: UK - USA

My swapsies:

Dark Wolverine, Vol 2: My Hero

Amazon: UK - USA

The biracial, bisexual, anti-hero son of Wolverine - could it get any better? Yes - it's written by Marjorie Liu!

(As a reminder of my fangirling over Marjorie Liu's work, check out my review of Monstress, Vol 1)

2) a comic book with an LGBT+ MC (Main Character)
7) a book with a QPoC (Queer Person of Colour) MC
6) a Sci-Fi/Fantasy book with an LGBTQ+ MC

Volume 1 on Amazon: UK - USA

Curvy, Vol 2 by M Magdalene

Amazon: UK - USA

This is 18+ only on account of v (porno)graphic sexy times!

I started reading this webcomic last week, and there's a princess made of liquorice guys! A PRINCESS. MADE. OF. LIQUORICE.

1) an f/f romance
2) a comic book with an LGBT+ MC (Main Character)
6) a Sci-Fi/Fantasy book with an LGBTQ+ MC

Volume 1 on Amazon: UK - USA

Love Beyond Body, Space, and Time: An Indigenous LGBT Sci-fi Anthology

Amazon: UK - USA

This is a book of short stories by indigenous/Native authors which I won (woop!) in a giveaway run by the awesome Brendon @ Reading and Gaming For Justice

6) a Sci-Fi/Fantasy book with an LGBTQ+ MC

peace sign

  2. Wolverine has a biracial son???? Since when? What's his name?

I've been meaning to read Monstress - I seriously have to get to it soon - but the Kindle doesn't do colour...

    1. Wolverine's biracial son is Daken - he's Japanese and white. He's an anti-hero and all-round scary dude, but he's been around for quite a while now. :) (I love him! Even though he's like... some sort of serial killer. So is Deadpool. And Wolverine, for that matter. Most superheroes, actually.)

Monstress is awesome!!!!! But yeah... I think the colour adds quite a lot to be fair, just because the artwork in that book is amazing!

    2. I did not realise that Daken is biracial...

    3. Yep, his mother was Japanese! :)

  3. Yup a book by Benjamin would help at least with one or two items on the list! I'm on the waiting list for the Aristotle and Dante audio book in my library. I KNOW I'll love it. I loved The Inexplicable Logic of My Life so much that I pledged to read ANYTHING he writes :) Wait. How come Wolverine has a son. Wolverine is MINE and he is not supposed to fool around! I'll check it out humph!

    1. *whispers* Wolverine has quite a few kids.

I'm sure all of the fooling around happened in the decades and centuries before you were born ;)

  4. Good for you for doing the Prideathon. I am a stick in the mud, though not closed minded but just have been reading sci-fi or historical fiction....
Does 50 shades of Grey count? Women writer and about SM sex. I read that a while back and thought it was rubbish.

    1. There's plenty of LGBTQ+ sci-fi - and some historical fiction! Check out my Diversity Link List or Naz's blog @ readdiversebooks.com if you're stuck. :)

      No, 50 Shades doesn't count - because it's not LGBTQ+ at all. It's a sexuality-related readathon, rather than a sex-related readathon, lol!

    1. There's a big push towards diversity and diverse books in publishing, book blogging, etc. right now - not everyone is happy about that, but it's about bringing everyone's voice to the table!

If you're interested in looking more @ diverse reading, I recommend checking out my Diversity Link List, or Naz's blog @ readdiversebooks.com :)

  6. I hope you had fun with the read-a-thon (my comment is coming a little late). I read Aristotle and Dante two years ago I believe, and I wasn't expecting to like it as much as I did in the end!

    1. Yeah - I actually read the 2 books I said I would! (Which, y'know, is pretty novel to me! Lol.) I really related to Aristotle & Dante, I have to admit!

  7. Hahah I love that you're cheating and not afraid to admit it! These books look pretty interesting, I look forward to knowing what you think of them x

    1. Ha, I have to keep my Bookish Rebel reputation somehow ;)

I'm hoping to write a review of Aristotle & Dante soon, but I am SO behind on my review writing!!! Lol.
