'As always, it was completely Potter’s fault. How was Draco’s brain supposed to work properly, given these circumstances?'
You know when you start a fic like, 'oh this is gonna be cutesy with maybe a bit of angst and sexy thrown in'?
And then 9 chapters later you're a f**king mess of feels because it was secretly about the deep sh** the whole time?!?!
...that.
(So many fanfic readers know what I'm talking about right now, and the noobs are like 'That'll never happen to me!' - oh contraire, dearest noobish nerdlets, it most certainly f**king will.
Because fanfiction likes to warp your soul and f**k with your brain.
#TrueStory. #GottaLoveItThough.)
(Fangirling notes: Feels are intense and hard to describe feelings/emotions)
So yeah, this fic turned out to be... a lot more intense than I thought it would!
Insecurities play a massive part - and how our perception of what people think of us can affect how we relate to other people.
It also shows that communication is v. v. important, cos, like, if you have insecurities, and the other people have insecurities, it turns out it's uber-easy to get your insecurities all tangled up and misinterpret each other entirely!
'Draco felt Luna shift in his arms, before she slowly let go of him.
“You know, Harry, I think you should talk to Draco. You’re upsetting him.”
“ I’m upsetting him?” Potter blurted, but Luna didn’t bat an eyelash as she walked past him.'
At it's heart, this fic is about Harry and Draco learning to let themselves be vulnerable in front of others, and let others in.
Which... maybe if you've miraculously reached this point in your life as an open book with zero insecurities is difficult for you to understand.
But to those of us with mental health problems - hi again! - as well as, I suspect, a lot of other people, this is likely to strike one helluva chord!
(I love that my spellcheck accepts helluva as a correctly spelled word - the evolution of language, dearest nerdlets!)

And yes, this is Drarry - Draco and Harry having romantic and/or sexy times - and it DOES have sex scenes.
So don't pretend I didn't warn ya!
Also, 18+ Only, stay in school, don't do drugs. #ResponsibleAdult.
Also, be careful, because this fic does explore topics like eating disorders, low self-worth, body-image issues, etc.
So as always dearest nerdlets, take care of yourselves, m'k? Good.
And one last note - I think, think, that Harry is meant to be a Person of Colour (PoC) in this fic.
It's not made too clear - especially not early on - but the references to his dark skin tone suggest this was the fic-author's intention.
This week's fic, then, is:

Oddly enough, I had a dream about Draco Malloy last night! Maybe I have some weird psychic connection to your posts, Cee! XD
ReplyDeleteI love that your autocorrect or whatever has decided to make Draco's name more normal-y! (If you don't use autocorrect, pretend you do, no-one will eeeeeever know! Lol.)
DeleteHa, and yes, of course, my telepathic powers are clearly getting stronger!!!! ;)
Haha, damn autocorrect! But you’re right, Draco Malloy sounds like he could be an author or something!
DeleteThere's probably someone adopting that as their pseudonym as we speak! ;)
DeleteI don't think I've ever read a Fan Fic. I'm obviously missing out
ReplyDeleteYou should totally give some a try! (Maybe take it slow though... it can be a bit trippy sometimes!)
