Warning: this is Deadpool, so adult humour

I posted my spoiler-filled, and possibly a little controversial, post about Avengers: Infinity War yesterday.

Corissa Haury @ Women Write About Comics explained the darker side of comic books known as 'Comicsgate.'
(Content Warning for this link/topic!)
Basically, there are some bigoted a**holes in this world, my nerdlets.
These are the type of people who don't even think that someone like me (a woman, a queer person, a person with several disabilities including mental health problems,) should be allowed to write posts like this - where I talk about comics.
They are totally against any diversity in comics.
People from marginalised groups are often under threat in this community.
What's been going on in Canada and what Richard Meyer has been doing is both terrifying and sadly a symptom of the world we live in.
And it's not ok. And it won't stop us, my nerdlets.
And to finish us off this week, Tori over at InToriLex wrote an awesome review of the graphic novel 'everyone's a aliebn when ur a aliebn too' by Jomny Sun
Do you love the whole Deadpool meets David Beckham thing? Do you read webcomics? Talk to me! 😉💬

Omg I read the Comicsgate post and that is absolutely terrible! I had no idea this was happening, and even events in my own country! Hope you, and other female comic books bloggers and writers are doing ok despite the hatred <3
ReplyDeleteI'm fine, Em - I've found that throwing glitter is the best way forward. It scares people - especially homophobes ;)
DeleteBut yeah, it's pretty damned awful. This is the sort of thing that happens when the domination of a community like this by white allocishet able-bodied dudes is challenged in any way. *sighs*
Wow, sounds like a lot of controversy in the comic book world today. Very sad!

Controversy is probably the polite way of putting it! Unfortunately there's always been a corner of comics that is extremely misogynistic, and bigoted in many other ways too. Now that their power is waning a little, they're throwing their toys out of the proverbial pram. It's sad, yes, but I'm still planning on taking no prisoners ;)
