Friday Fics Fix - Severely Severus

I know, I know, Severus Snape is kind of a divisive figure in the online bookish community, and with fans in general.

Lotsa people love him - he's a hero, a tragic figure, a hopeless romantic.

Lotsa people hate him - he's a bully, a sneak, an obsessive and petty man.

Me? Having never met him, and having, let's face it, limited info. about his life, decisions, and opinions, I tend to believe the truth is somewhat in the middle.

I think he's human... Wizardly. Whatever.

And humans? They're messy. They're not one thing. They're rarely spotless, and they're rarely all bad.

That said, I love it when fans explore other sides to characters - and that's what this week's fic does.

Now, I'm not sure I agree with all the characterisation/points being made here, but I found it interesting anyhow.

Also, I've been thinking a lot lately about how hard it is sometimes to get what you want to in life - especially if you're not lucky enough to come from wealth.

The work ethic in this fic is great - but I should also give you a general reminder not to work until it hurts! #SelfCare for the win my dearest nerdlets!

So, this week's fic my nerdlets, is:

Hard Work by sheankelor

So, *opens can of worms* what do you think of Snape? *ducks, covers* Do you know of any fics about working damned hard? Talk to me! 😇😈💬

  1. I know enough about Snape to hate him. I just think he was such a bully, he was creepy, and extremely obsessive. I don’t think he could be redeemed for me, although I know he was for other people.

  2. I don't hate Snape. I feel sorry for him. He's one of those characters that you love to hate as a villian.

    1. I think Umbridge is probably more love-to-hate for a lot of people - interesting though! :)

  3. I've only read the first HP so I don't really know Snape but I've heard lots about him, pro and con! I'll have to go over and read that and see what I think. :)

    1. Ha, well the first HP doesn't really give the full story to be fair! :)

  4. "Having never met him" idk why that's cracking me up so much lol. I think you already know what I think of Snape from my recently HP discussions (which, if you forgot, is that I don't like him)? But yes, humans are messy and have negative traits in addition to our good ones, so it's nice to see characters that actually reflect that.
