This is far more negative a statement than I usually go with. You know me, my nerdlets, I'm usually all about the hope and the can-do attitude! ;)
But sometimes it's more affective to try to do less. (Cue gasps from the stalls!)
Because holding up the sky with a teaspoon is a) hard work, b) tiring, and c) going to end in disaster.
You can't save the world all by yourself.
That doesn't mean you shouldn't do things to make the world a better place - F**K NO! We all need to work on this trash-fire world of ours.
But you gotta take care of yourself first. That's not selfish, it's just sensible.
That means not worrying when you fail, when you make mistakes, when you need a break - YOU are not the only one responsible for saving the world.
There's no 'chosen one' trope at play here. There are other people in this world who can help pick up the slack, as long as you help pick their slack up too.
This goes for your personal problems too - NEVER be afraid to ask for help if you're struggling.
There's agencies, charities, and social services, to help you with whatever it is you need help with. If you're lucky, there's also family and friends. Don't be afraid to lean on people if you have to.
This post is, in part at least, a reminder to myself.
I constantly try to do everything - because somehow I think it's my responsibility to solve everyone's problems. I don't do well in situations that I can't fix.
I also feel bad when I can't put as much time and effort into this blog as I want to, because of all the other cr*p I'm doing.
And THEN I feel bad when I AM putting the effort into the blog, because I need to get work done, and deal with family stuff...
Ha, there's a lot of unnecessary guilt spinning around in my head most of the time. 😅
But I need to accept that what I can do - whatever it is that I can do - is good enough.
You hear that?
WHATEVER YOU CAN DO IS GOOD ENOUGH.
Go out and change the world my nerdlets, but take care of yourselves first.

ReplyDeleteWe all need reminders that we are not alone and help is there if we need it
Totally! :)
DeleteYou don't know how much I needed this today, Cee! Also I've never heard that quote before, but it's so true!!
ReplyDeleteThe reason you've never heard that quote before is because it's a Cee original ;)
DeleteAnd good, I'm glad to be helpful :)
Always a good reminder! Secure your own oxygen mask, etc. Take care of yourself, hon! <3
ReplyDeleteThanks! :) <3
Deletelove the message of this post Cee. I'm guilty too of always wanting to be independent and do everything by myself and NEVER as =k for help. I guess it has become a matter of pride for me. As you may have figured out from all my feminist comments I grew up in an environment where women were not very appreciated and empowered and then were very dependent of men and I promised myself I would never be but being an strong independent woman is not the same as being Wonder Woman. Such thing doesn't exist. We all need help.
ReplyDeleteYes! No man (or woman, or other) is an island and all that jazz! Sometimes it's not even about asking for help - it's just understanding that you're doing too much and you're gonna burn yourself out!
